India’s defense production rose by 151 crore in fiscal 25: Rajnath Singh

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said on Saturday that the annual Defense Ministry’s all-time high in fiscal 2024-25 reached Rs 1,505,900 crore.

The minister told the milestone represents a 18% increase in the last fiscal rise of Rs 1.27 crore, a 90% increase since the 2019-20 fiscal year.

Defense Public Sector Enterprises (DPSU) and other PSUs account for nearly 77% of total production, while the private sector accounts for 23%.

The private sector share increased from 21% in fiscal 2023-24 to 23% in fiscal 2024-25, reflecting the growing role of the industry in the country’s defense ecosystem.

The Minister praised the collective efforts of the Ministry of Defense and all stakeholders – DPSU, public sector manufacturers and private enterprises to achieve this milestone.
He said the upward trajectory is a clear indicator of India’s strengthening its defense industry base.

The industry has shown year-on-year growth in both the public sector and private sectors, attributed to far-reaching policy reforms that have improved the convenience of the business and strategic focus on indigenization over the past decade.

Total production in DPSUS and private sectors increased by 16% and 28%, respectively, in fiscal 2024-25, respectively.

“This record achievement underscores the momentum of the government’s efforts to strive for self-reliance under the initiative of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, under the initiative of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” the Ministry of Defense said.

The focus of reducing reliance on imports and creating a defence industrial complex not only meets India’s needs but also enhances export potential, which shows positive results.

With ongoing policy support, increased private participation and expanded export capacity, India’s defense production sector is expected to continue to accelerate in the coming years.
