India’s net direct tax collection fell 1.34% in fiscal 2025-26 until July 10; refunds see a 38% jump

Net direct tax collection in India fell 1.34% year-on-year to Rs 5,62,827 crore in the current fiscal year to July 10, 2025, according to data released by the income tax department on Friday.

Direct direct tax collection increased by 3.17% to Rs 664,807 crore between April 1 and July 10, 2025. The figure includes Rs 289,773 crore for corporate tax, Rs 356,887 crore for non-corporate tax, and securities transaction tax from non-corporate tax and Rs 17,874.

By comparison, the total collection for the same period last year was Rs 644,375 crore and the net collection was Rs 57,04,83 crore.

In June, the government reported that the marginal decline of direct tax net tax collection fell 1.39% to Rs 4,582.2 crore, compared with Rs 4,652.75 crore in the same period last year.
