A different European city, a different indoor arena, but Jannik Sinner’s path to victory was very familiar.
Just four days after claiming the ATP 500 title in Vienna, the PIF ATP Ranking No. 2 began his Rolex Paris Masters title hunt with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Zizou BergΓ¨s. Sinner produced a typically all-round performance in the pair’s first Lexus ATP meeting, defeating his Belgian opponent and extending his tour-record winning streak to 22 matches on indoor hard courts.

Signs of Burgess’s struggles were evident from the start at the La DΓ©fense Arena, where he saved four break points in the first game but was unable to prevent Sinner from breaking serve 12 minutes into the first game. That was enough to get the Italian into the first set, and another break in the first game of the second set proved decisive.
Second-seeded Sinner was authoritative on her serve throughout the match. According to Infosys ATP statistics, he faced no break points and won 77% (24/31) of his points after the first serve heading into his third-round match against Francisco Cerundolo. The Argentine had earlier defeated Miomir Kekmanovic 7-5, 1-6, 7-6(4).
With an 88-minute victory over BergΓ¨s, Sinner remains hopeful of capitalizing on Carlos Alcaraz’s early defeat in Paris in his bid for world number one: if the Italian can lift his first Masters 1000 title of the season next Monday, he can return to the top.
“I think the main thing is sports [was good],” Sinner said. “This is a very unique court. Normally I always struggle a little bit, so I’m glad I got through the first game. I’m very pleased with today’s service. I was very precise and rested right at the start, which gives you more confidence. I’m very happy with today’s performance. ”
Sinner’s outright victory was in stark contrast to the day’s first contest at Center Court. In a rematch of the Rolex Shanghai Masters final earlier this month, Valentin Vacherot once again defeated his cousin Arthur Rinderknech in three sets to extend his Masters 1,000-match winning streak to nine matches.
“Arthur is playing really well right now. It’s not easy from start to finish,” Vacherote said. After reaching the third round on his debut in Paris, he moved up three spots to No. 37 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings. “[It was not easy]. I also made a lot of mistakes today. Not everything is perfect.
“It would have been different if I had won in straight sets 6-1, 6-2, but that’s not the case. But I’m very confident in myself, that’s for sure.”

Vaccello will face Alcaraz conqueror Cameron Norrie in Paris for a place in the quarter-finals. Daniil Medvedev also advanced on Wednesday after his second-round opponent Grigor Dimitrov was forced to withdraw before the match with a right shoulder injury.
