Iran – Israel’s tensions: IDF strikes nuclear site behind missile barrage

Israel and Iran have exchanged direct strikes, putting the region into a new phase of open conflict. The IDF confirmed on Friday that dozens of missiles were fired, including one from Yemen, triggering sirens in Jerusalem and the West Bank.

The IDF said its air defense array is actively detecting and intercepting multiple missile launches, urging citizens to comply with safety instructions and avoid sharing videos online or influence locations. “The explosion you are hearing is from projectiles that are intercepted or lost,” the military statement added.

Earlier in the day, Israel reportedly launched a powerful offensive within Iran, with a key component of its nuclear and military infrastructure. The use of fighter jets and drones allegedly within Iranian territory is believed to have killed several top Iranian generals and nuclear scientists. Israeli officials described the attack as a preemptive move aimed at stopping Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

In retaliation, Iran fired a series of ballistic missiles at Israel, causing multiple explosions in major cities, including Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. Residents reported that residents felt the ground tremble as the defense system and the incoming threats were affected.

Israeli Army Chief Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi warned that the “hard times” indicate that the army is still on high alert for further escalation. “The attack is underway,” the IDF said, highlighting the ongoing threat of missile launches.

Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei vowed that the Iranian nation would “not let the blood of the great martyrs waste”, and he asserted that any violation of Iran’s space would be accomplished with strong revenge.

This situation remains fluid, with international observers expressing concern about the potential for wider regional conflicts involving multiple state and non-state actors. The United Nations calls for restraint, and several countries have begun to evacuate diplomats in the region.
