Pilou Asbæk is playing M, the horror villain of “Foundation” Season 3

Long before joining the Apple TV+ series Base When Mule (the ruthless, gorgeous and profoundly complex villain of the three seasons), Pilou Asbæk already has a fan base of type TV viewers. He’s in HBO Game of Thrones. There is a connection there, but to hear the Danish actor tell it that a similar character is no It reflects his actual character.
“I’m the boring guy,” Asbæk in the latest one Base News Day. “I won’t hurt flies. I’m not doing anything. I’m just a simple guy who loves to eat pizza, drink beer and watch sports. But, I think what I do [Goyer, Foundation creator and executive producer] Have seen my portrayal of Euron Greyjoy Game of Throneshe thought that would be the element he wanted to bring, that was unpredictable, crazy Basebecause that’s m’s: he is chaos. The whole show is about predicting the future, knowing what will happen, bringing the foundation and empire together, and so on. Then, all of a sudden, you have this character, like a threat, bringing violence. disaster! ”
Being cast Base The first introduction to Asbæk is provided, not only the performance and its story, but also to the writer Isaac Asimov. “I know nothing about books. Honestly, I know nothing about the show. I didn’t watch a lot of TV. “He said. So when I got a call from David Goyer asking if I wanted to read the script and portray M-Son in Season 3, he opened a door that I didn’t know, a world that I didn’t know existed. I was introduced to Asimov. Then I discovered that all the science fiction novels I’ve seen in my life were inspired by his book, and it was such a revelation. I’m so grateful for being involved Basebut honestly, I am very grateful for the introduction to Asimov. ”
So far, this Ule has made fun of the story – he actually appeared in season 2, very briefly portrayed by Mikael Persbrandt. But seeing the characters become comprehensive in the third season start with the first scene in the first episode.
“I know they want him to be very male because that’s why they have Mikael Persbrandt [play] He is in season 2; [he’s] Aspik said: “I know they want him to have stolen goods, they want him to have this cruelty. But, I think the most interesting thing about M-son is that honestly the opposite. He was frozen in time, he was a kid, he didn’t know how to build a relationship, how to feel love because he never really experienced it.”
He continued. “This inspiration comes from a book called Little Prince go through [Antoine de] Saint exupéry; That’s why he wears a red cape. That’s why he [acts like] Children in some scenes. and [as the show goes on]you’ll learn more about why I’ve made these weird transitions throughout the season, as if he was “What’s wrong with him?” He’s a little out of place. He is out of sync with the world. That’s…I don’t want to spoil anything. ”
Famous! and Base Fans already know that by following the many nuances of the show, they are rewarded. But this is not a destroyer Base, The series takes a different approach to the characters than the original material.
“What makes us very different from books is the way Mule is in the book, he’s a fool, he’s a liar, he has this very weak, unsafe character, you wouldn’t think of as one of the greatest villains of all time,” Asbæk said. “We don’t have time to do it. We have this, [and] Maybe next season we have to have 2,000 miles per hour, introduce the character, he is a threat, he can kill everyone, he can rule the world, and now the foundation and empire need to figure out: do we want to cooperate or die? ”
Base Not renewed for the fourth season (Asbæk puts high hopes and jokes, “I just bought a house!”), but season three is almost here: Episode 1 on Apple TV+ on July 11.
