Ben Shelton qualified for the Nitto ATP Finals by reaching the quarterfinals at the Rolex Paris Masters on Thursday, leaving him with just one spot left in the season finale in Turin.
Shelton will compete in the year-end tournament for the first time after enjoying the best season of his career, reaching his second Grand Slam semi-final and claiming first ATP Masters 1000 glory.
Shelton and Tyler Fritz take the field, marking the first time two American singles players will compete for the Brad DeRuyter Trophy since James Blake and Andy Roddick took the field in 2006. Blake advanced to the finals that year.
Shelton got his 2025 campaign off to a fast start by reaching the semi-finals of the Australian Open, with only eventual champion Jannik Sinner able to stop him.
The great-serving southpaw reached the Munich final in April and cracked the top 10 in the PIF ATP Rankings in June, becoming the fourth American southpaw (since 1973) to do so. He joined Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe and Roscoe Tanner.
But the former college tennis star’s biggest moment came in Toronto when, at 22, he became the youngest Masters 1000 champion since 21-year-old Roddick won in Miami in 2004.
Shelton joins Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Novak Djokovic and Fritz in the Nitto ATP Finals. Only two singles spots remain in the season finals, with Alex De Minaur and Lorenzo Musetti currently ranked seventh and eighth respectively at the PIF ATP Turin Live event.
