Senior democratic strategist James Carville criticized New York’s democratic socialist mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani’s refusal to condemn the term “globalization uprising” which is related to violence against Israel.

New York State Assemblyman Mamdani is a Ugandan Muslim with Indian heritage who won the campaign to become the Democratic nominee for New York City mayor, but Republicans, even some Democrats, have blown up Democratic socialists because it’s too extreme.

After host Daniel Koh mentioned the popularity of some economic ideas in New York City, Cavill summoned Mamdani in a appearance in the People’s Cabinet podcast held on Tuesday.

Although Cavill agreed that the emphasis on affordability was similar to some of his own core ideas, he pointed out that there are generational changes in politics.

“One of the biggest changes is that Israel doesn’t have much impact on young Jewish voters,” Cavill said.

However, he lamented that Mamdani still won’t condemn the “globalization uprising.”

Cavill said frustratedly, “Yes, I mean, man, man, just put it out of your mouth.”

“Why do you think he won’t do that?” Koh asked. “I mean, it seems like a condemnation thing, right?”

“His father was a scholar, and I think the ‘rebels’ mean differently to different people, okay?” Cavill suggested. “For some people, it means ‘opposition’. For most people, myself, it means ‘violence’.

According to the American Jewish Council, the sentence “calls people from all over the world to participate in opposition to Israel.” The second uprising against Israel in the early 2000s was characterized by Palestinian terrorism, including suicide bombings on Israeli civilians.

“Look, I’m as confused as you,” Cavill added. “And he had a chance to go back, okay, so I’m very confused about it. The guys I respected so much Jonathan Chait and Hakeem Jeffries were like, ‘Come on, man.’ S — It’s not very difficult.

“It’s disturbing,” he concluded.

House Minority Leader and New Yorker Jeffries called Mamdani after his victory, warning: “‘Globalization uprising’ lead by example is not an acceptable phrase. He will have to articulate his position as he moves forward.”

He concluded: “As for the Jewish community I represent, I think our nominee will have to convince people that he is ready to actively address the rise of anti-Semitism in New York City, which is an unacceptable development.”
