Jannik Sinner was unable to respond better to his heartbroken open final against Carlos Alcaraz, which also cost him his world No. 1.
Just three weeks later, the 24-year-old Italian made his second title on the ATP 500 in Beijing and is now arriving at the Rolex Shanghai Masters, determined to successfully defend his title. After the setback in New York, Sina hints at the subtle changes in his game. He said the adjustments are starting to pay off, but he still desires more.
“I’m not the only one who is changing,” Sina said at a championship press conference in Shanghai. “If you ask every player, every player is changing things and trying to get better. No matter what we try to do, it’s not a crazy step, just trying to adjust a few things and trying to get better like everyone else.”
“But it’s also normal, I’m just looking forward to getting as many games as possible in every game. It gives me the opportunity to try as many things as possible. So let’s see, but we’re very happy with the work we’re doing.”
Before his championship battle in Beijing, he beat #NextGenatp Learner Tien, who Sinner confirmed that he was working on a stomach bug, but it was over and he was ready to compete in the Chinese ATP Masters 1000 event.
The Sinners soared Novak Djokovic in last year’s final, and if both of them reached the semifinals, he could meet again with a record four-time champion. However, the Italian has confirmed that he will only practice once before the opening match and has been focused from the start.

According to Infosys ATP Win/Loss Index, “It’s great to get back here.” The conditions are absolutely different from Beijing, so I only have one practice class to prepare for, but let’s take a look.
“It will be a very, very difficult and difficult challenge, especially in the first round. You never know what will happen, so let’s see. But obviously I’m happy to come back here and play in front of Shanghai fans.”
Sinner defended Germany’s Daniel Altmaier with a 1-1 Lexus ATP Head2head series level. Altmaier won five wins in 2023 at Roland Garros’ latest meeting.
After winning last year’s season finale, Sinner has already qualified for the Nitto ATP final in 2025, but he will be eager to boost Alcaraz at the pace of Alcaraz in the battle of PIF Honors as No. 1 in the end of the year. He was 2,580 points behind the Espanyol who was not competing in Shanghai and competed in Turin on the PIF ATP live.
