The diagnosis was found on his prostate after Biden reported symptoms of urine. Mr Biden's cancer “characterized by a 9 Gleason score.” The statement said.
The Gleason score is used to describe how prostate cancer looks under a microscope. 9 and 10 are the most aggressive. Cancer is stage 4, which means it has spread.
Biden's office statement was not signed. “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, cancer seems to indicate hormone sensitivity to effective treatments.” “The president and his family are reviewing treatment options with doctors.”
Mr. Biden, 82, left his office in January and is the oldest president in American history. During his presidency, Mr. Biden faced doubts about his age and health, which ultimately led to his re-election under pressure from his own party.
Prostate cancer experts say Mr Biden's diagnosis is serious and that once the cancer spreads to the bones (where it often goes), it cannot be cured. But Dr. Judd Moul, a prostate cancer expert at Duke University, said men with prostate cancer have spread that they can live for five, seven, ten years or more.
The first attack was to cut off testosterone that feeds prostate cancer. Dr. Moore said when he was initially a urologist in the 1980s, it was done by removing men's testicles. Nowadays, men have two medications that prevent the testicles from making testosterone or doing the same thing with injections. Furthermore, although the drug inhibits the drug it produces, men take drugs that block any testosterone they manage to make.
Dr. Moore said he saw Mr. Biden’s age regularly undergo similar prostate cancer diagnosis. “The survival rate has almost tripled over the past decade,” he said.
President Trump, who repeatedly slammed Mr Biden and blamed most of his problems, was among those who made supportive remarks Sunday night.
“Melania and I regret to hear Joe Biden's recent medical diagnosis,” Trump wrote on social media. “We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and our family and wish Joe a quick and successful recovery.”
Former Vice President Kamala Harris, who served in Biden, said she and her husband felt “sad” to learn about the former president’s diagnosis.
“Joe is a fighter – I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience and optimism that has always defined his life and leadership,” she wrote on social media. “We hope to recover quickly in full swing.”
Since leaving the office, Mr. Biden has kept a low profile, spending most of his time in Delaware and commuting to Washington to meet with employees to plan his later life. After Mr. Trump passed the 100-day mark and before publishing books on his presidency and the 2024 campaign, Mr. Biden participated in an interview to oppose his claim that he suffered a spiritual decline.
“They were wrong,” Biden said in an interview. “There's nothing to maintain.”
He also said he could have beaten Mr. Trump if he hadn't withdrawn from the game.
Still, before the disastrous debate last June, many top Democrats had been forced to steadfast support for Mr. Biden’s re-election campaign, in which he seemed lost and unconscious. After dropping out of school, Mr. Biden recognized Ms. Harris, who lost to Mr. Trump.
This weekend, Mr. Biden’s 2023 interview with Robert K. Hur (a special adviser who investigated his handling of confidential documents), was added to fuel in the fire this weekend. Axios released the entire five-hour videotape before the Trump administration released it this week and revealed Mr Biden’s stopping voice and his difficulty in providing dates and details.
Mr Hur ultimately refused to recommend the allegations against Mr Biden, in part because he said the jury would consider the president “sympathy, kindness, seniors, poor memory”.
In February 2024, when Mr. Biden was still president, his long-time doctor announced that he had a routine physical condition at the Walter Reed National Moral Medical Center, he was “fitting”.
Mr. Biden and his family face many health challenges throughout their lives. In 1988, Biden fought two brain aneurysms who threatened to end his political career. His son Beau died in 2015 From glioblastoma, an aggressive brain cancer.
When Mr Biden was asked in January whether he was energetic to serve for another four years after leaving the office not long ago, he said he didn't know.
