Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski continued to stress their intent at the Nitto ATP Finals on Wednesday when they recorded another clinical victory to move to the brink of semi-final qualification.
The British pair defeated second seeds Harri Heliovaara and Henry Patten 7-6(7), 3-6, 10-7 in the second round robin in one hour and 43 minutes. Salisbury required a medical timeout in the first set but, with strong support from Skupski, he kept his reflexes sharp in the tie-break to extend his winning streak in this prestigious season final to 12 matches and secure back-to-back titles with Rajiv Ram in 2022-23.

“I didn’t feel good out there, I think I had a problem overnight, but Neil was great,” Salisbury said. “I didn’t have as much energy as usual, but I knew Neil was going to be there to support me. He played well and did most of the work. I’m not sure how we got through this in the end.”
With the win, Salisbury and Skupski improved the John McEnroe Group’s record to 2-0. Marcelo Arevalo and Matt Pavic will qualify for Wednesday’s semifinals later if they beat Christian Harrison and Evan King.
The decisive moment of the game came at 7/7 in the tie-break, when Salisbury guided a forehand return winner past Patten and out of the baseline. This was a third win in a row and tied the Lexus ATP Head2Head series with Heliovara/Patten at 2-2.
“The overall level is very good and the margins are very good,” Skupski said. “We know that as a team we’ve been fighting hard all year, and when it comes to the tiebreaker, we’re going to fight until the end. We’ve had key games all year long, and that helps us along the way.”
Salisbury and Skupski make their debuts at the Nitto ATP Finals after a rock-solid 2025 season, during which they reached five finals, including the French Open and U.S. Open. They have a 57-26 record this year, according to the Infosys ATP Win-Loss Index, and will face Harrison and King in their final group match on Friday.
