Kevin Quiaambao’s eyes in the NBA Summer League

Another Filipino dancer is shooting in the NBA.
Gilas Pilipinas forward Kevin Quiambau will fly to the United States for private training next week, hoping to gain a spot in the NBA summer league and eventually step into the NBA.
The two-time UAAP MVP will begin his journey in training courses in Sacramento, California, and he also hopes to meet with Kings assistant coach and former Gillas captain Jimmy Alapag.
From there, Mr Quiambo will seek full exposure and connection in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas from July 10-20, following the footsteps of Gillas teammate Kai Sotto.
The 7-foot-3 Filipino Mr. Sotto did not draft at the 2022 NBA Rookie Draft, but saw action in the 2023 NBA Summer League and then found his home in Japan’s B. League.
Mr Quiamboo announced his decision when launching a collaboration with Adidas sneakers, making the most of his availability while taking a break during the offseason.
The 24-year-old De La Salle University product will make an explosive debut in his International Professional League with Goyang Sono Skygunners in the KBL as his average all-around number is 16.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.3 steals.
Mr Quiambau only played 23 games after finishing La Salle in UAAP after Goyang finished 19-35.
He didn’t sign with the Skygunners until 2027, but that doesn’t mean his ultimate NBA dream is no longer fulfilled.
In addition to trying his NBA luck, Mr Quiambau’s US training is also part of his personal preparation for the 2025 FIBA Asian Cup campaign in Saudi Arabia from August 5 to 17. – John Bryan Ulanday
