Already eliminated, Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz earned victory in the final round-robin match of the Nitto ATP Finals on Thursday, saving a match point to defeat the Italian pair of Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori 7-6(5), 4-6, 13-11.

Last year’s champions Kravitz and Puez lost their first two games in the Peter Fleming group, while Borelli and Valvasoli won both games to ensure they will top the group regardless of Thursday’s result.

Despite not qualifying, the sixth and seventh seeds put on an exciting showdown at the Inalpi Arena, with Kravitz and Putz saving a match point in the tiebreak at 9/10 to advance after 1 hour and 57 minutes.

Kravitz and Puez finished their season with a 42-18 record, highlighted by wins in Shanghai and Halle. Germany lifted the trophy in Turin last year and won 1-2 in Turin this week.

Borelli and Valvasoli will compete in Saturday’s semifinals. The winner of tonight’s doubles match between Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool and Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos will join them in the Final Four.
