Landbank pays cashless fare in MRT-3

Landbank successfully launched the Department of Transportation (DOTR) Automated Fare Collection System (AFCS) on July 25 as a key enabler for convenient and cashless commuting.
Under AFCS, MRT-3 passengers can now experience seamless commuting by simply tapping on a debit, credit or prepayment of European, MasterCard (EMV) cards on an upgraded rotary grille. This provides a faster and more convenient alternative to single Juni tickets and stored value cards, marking a shift to secure, seamless and real-time shipping payments.
The Memorandum of Ceremony (MOA) signed and on-site demonstrations were signed by Minister of Transport Vince B. Dizon, Member of the Monetary Committee of Sentral Ng Pilipinas (BSP) of Bangladesh, Ren-Ren Reyes, President and CEO of Landbank, Lynette V. Ortiz, Country Manager of Visa, Jeffrey Navarro, RCBC President Andceo Reginald Cariaso, and EVP Lito Villanuueva, Chief Innovation and Inclusion Officer of RCBC, including other key interests.

“We are honored to enable smart, secure and contactless payments for everyday commuters and support the government’s drive for digital transport reforms. At Landbank, we are always ready to work with public and private players to expand interoperable payment solutions to improve everyday life.”
As part of a collaborative project, GCASH operator GXI deploys and maintains POS terminals and transport systems on the MRT-3 rotary gate, handles fare calculations, reports and commuter support to ensure smooth card-based transactions.
Meanwhile, Landbank is the only integrator for acquisition of banking and transportation payment gateways, ensuring payments made using EMV cards are authorized, processed and resolved directly to the DOTR account.
Landbank’s bus payment solutions support fare payments in various transportation modes through validator integrated systems, central payment gateways and settlement services. It is suitable for EMV and other dedicated cards and can be connected with other transit providers via secure digital links to support truly interoperable national transport experience.
The AFCS constitutes the broader agenda of the National Government to digitalize public services, in line with Executive Order No. 170 and BSP’s digital payment transformation roadmap.
Through this initiative, Landbank is ready to help build a fully modern and inclusive public transport ecosystem powered by financial technology and strong inter-agency and public sector collaboration.
