Andre Agassi enjoyed his high score on the tennis court. The Americans ranked first in the PIF ATP rankings and won 60 Tour titles, including eight majors.
Since retirement, Agassi has written another chapter in his tennis script when he was captaining Sunday, leading the world to win European teams in the Laver Cup in San Francisco. This is a weekend that will live long in memory.
“Everyone is making this one of the most memorable weeks I’ve ever had on the tennis court,” Agassi said Sunday night. “It’s something to say because for years, I’ve been there in one form or another with a sense of team, but it’s really a team. Be proud of these guys. Just unwavering. They never stopped believing.”

Off the field, Agassi joined vice captain Patrick Rafter to help Taylor Fritz, Joao Fonseca, Alex de Minaur and Francisco Cerundolo win singles, and De Minaur and Michelsen also won the doubles rubber in the three-day event during the three-day event. Even with decades of experience, Agassi found himself learning from the group he led.
“I think the common theme I get from this group is how confident they are with what they can do on the tennis court. It’s not delusion. I mean, it can be delusional…but it’s amazing to watch their calm in the storm,” Agassi said. “What I learned is what I keep learning, it’s trying to do more listening, not speaking, trying to avoid them.”
Fritz is a star in the San Francisco team world. He won the first Lexus ATP Head2head against Carlos Alcaraz on Saturday, then supported that with support from overcoming Alexander Zverev on Sunday and secured the decisive points in the team’s world.
“It’s hard to come back and play like I’ve played [Saturday]. Interestingly, I’m leaving the hotel. I’ve met Roddick and I haven’t really talked to him too much in the past and he said, “Don’t worry, you’ll play better today” and joked about how I did with Carlos. ”
“We had to be on the lineup today, we sat down as a team, and I was someone who wanted to put myself on my own slot machine. So when it comes to it, I just had to perform. It was a game and I obviously felt a little comfortable. Anyway, I would do my best, I could do my best and do my best and do my best.”
The hosts won 15-9 in San Francisco, but after eight versions, Europe led the team 5-3 against Team World.
