Lner warns customers about passenger details exposed in cyber attacks

The North London Railway (LNER) warns passengers to remain alert after cyberattacks on exposed customer contact information and some journey history of third-party suppliers.

The operator stressed that no financial data, passwords or ticketing systems had been compromised and that the train service continued to operate normally.

Lner said the violation is being treated “with the highest priority”, highlighting the growing risk of cyberattacks in UK transport operators and their supply chains. While the company confirms that the supplier involved has no access to the bank or payment records, it urges customers to be wary of unsolicited emails or messages, especially those that require personal information.

The event is the latest in a engaging series of British businesses and transport services. Transport in London suffered from cyber vulnerabilities last year, affecting the financial data of 5,000 customers, and earlier this month, production of Jaguar Land Rover was stopped by ransomware attacks. Retailers including Marks & Spencer, Harrods and co-ops have also become targets this year.

Lner said it is working with cybersecurity experts and relevant suppliers to establish a full scale of violations and implement other safeguards. Updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
