Rep. Don Bacon, a Republican of Nebraska, has not shy away from President Donald Trump, who said he does not support him as the Trump administration and congressional Republicans focus on the revocation of the proposal.
The president’s proposed kickbacks include millions of dollars associated with the global health plan.
“I told them I’m not,” according to the New York Times, congressmen said of the measure. “I just want to make sure we’re funding for drugs. We want to prevent AIDS, which is a noble plan, is the legacy of George Bush. I put the mark there; we’ll see it.”
In an article on X last week, Bacon described the President’s AIDS Relief Emergency Plan (PEPFAR) as “a noble program that the United States can be proud of for its funding.”
The withdrawal of the plan “proposes to withdraw $400 million from the PEPFAR program, which allocates $4.4 billion annually to provide bilateral aid to countries, many of which do not support U.S. interests, such as South Africa,” White House officials told Fox News on Monday.
“This $400 million revocation eliminates wasteful programs that do not serve U.S. taxpayers,” the official said, while insisting that “the parcel does not withdraw any life-saving help, and in fact, it continues to provide billions of resources to implement life-saving medicine, medical services, and services necessary to maintain the services provided by all existing individuals.”

Bacon is the only Republican to vote against the Gulf of Mexico measures.
“I thought that was stupid. That’s what people told me – they said, ‘It’s too stupid; just vote for it.’ According to the Times, he said.

House leaders urged Bacon to keep more of his views and told him, as members of Congress said, “quit kicking President Trump in the nuts.” But lawmakers say he will only press back when needed.
“You can’t object to everything,” Bacon said. “I like what the president does on the border, so I have no problem with that.”
“I want to fight for the soul of our party,” he said, according to The Times. “I don’t want to be the flute player who follows the cliff. I think that’s what’s happening now.”
