French President Emmanuel Macron promised to provide “strong” security assurances for Ukraine’s war-torn Ukraine as part of a deal to secure a peace amid ongoing Russian aggression.

Speaking with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kiev, Macron reiterated France's commitment to providing financial and military aid to Ukraine.

He said this support would help lay the foundation for a “strong and lasting peace.”

“Most importantly, we will continue to work to ensure that Ukraine has strong security assurances, a viable military structure” and “equip it to prevent further attacks.”

“We will continue to work on peacekeeping forces,” he said.

Along with Macron and Zelensky, talks in Kiev included German Chancellor Friedrich Meers, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

Ukraine and its allies propose a 30-day ceasefire on Monday if Russia agrees after the leaders meet.

France and the UK lead a 30-national organization called Willing Alliance, which has been preparing for potential security support in Ukraine.
