Man dies, trying to cross the UK channel from France

PARIS (AP) – A person died after trying to cross the British channel from a beach in northern France, bringing at least 18 dangerous water deaths this year, local authorities said Saturday.
PAS-DE-CALAIS County told the Associated Press that a man was found on a boat trying to reach the UK and then turned to the French coast.
The man was found near the Équihen beach near the town of Boulogne. He was pronounced dead despite firefighters’ efforts to rejuvenate him. Investigation on the cause of his death has been opened.
French media quoted figures from the French Ministry of Interior, saying that 18 people have died since the beginning of this year in an attempt to reach the UK by sea.
