Flushing Meadow, NY – Daniil Medvedev was fined $42,500 for his behavior during his first round defeat against Benjamin Bonzi at the U.S. Open.

Medvedev was fined $30,000 for non-sports-style behavior and $12,500 for racket abuse, according to the Grand Slam rulebook.

He earned a total of $110,000 in prize money, so he still profited at this year’s U.S. Open, albeit smaller than he wanted.

Medvedev’s first round encounter with Bonzi was in chaos when the photographer accidentally walked into the stadium in the third set. Chairman referee Greg Allensworth stopped the game and awarded another first serve to Benjamin Bonzi and raised a six-minute delay in rage.

Medvedev “He wanted to go home, guys. He got paid from the game, not the hour.” He even cites past comments and asks “What did Riley OPelka say?”– A poke in the previous criticism of Allensworth by fellow companions.

Eventually, Medvedev saved the match point and retreated from two sets, but he was defeated by Bonzi in five games. Now, the Russian has lost four majors for the first time in his career.

Medvedev later clarified that this was not the photographer he was unhappy with, but the referee’s decision.
