Mensik Shellacks Shelton wins fifth straight win in Madrid

The Czechs won the 1,000 Virgin Masters title in Miami just four weeks ago. On Sunday, the 19-year-old continues to show why he is so promising talent Ben Sheldon 6-1, 6-4 to reach 16 rounds in Madrid for the first time.
The reality for Mensik is that he is now one of the hunters, not the hunter’s hunter, which was defeated by Grand Slam King Novak Djokovic after Miami’s iconic championship title.
“I know it's just a game, and I'm working hard to improve myself every week,” he said. “Yes, I won, but the journey is still long and my goal is even further.”

Now, Mensik has won eight-game winning streak in the Masters 1000, improving 6-1 in the top 20 in 2025 in the 67-minute landing of Shelton, who has never found premium gear in his third career with Mensik.
Mensik, who ranked 23, will face Alexander Bublik in 16 rounds Tuesday. He will be a favorite because he scored 16-7 in the game. He beat Bubic in Rotterdam earlier this year and had a 1-1 lifelong record in No. 75.
Mensik has become the seventh different teenager in Madrid's 16 rounds, joining a roster that also includes Carlos Alcaraz, Juan Martin Del Potro, Denis Shapovalov, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.
