Rafael Devers wore gloves Tuesday as he debuted in the second of the three-game series between the San Francisco Giants and the Atlanta Braves.
Considering Devers insists on his desire to serve as a designated hitter on his previous team, Boston Red Sox. But Devers’ comments after the game are perhaps even more surprising.

Devers said that in fact, he prefers to pick up the defense exclusively in MLB games.
“It keeps me active. It keeps me from getting rid of the next bat,” according to the San Francisco Chronicle. “I would rather be on the field than hit in a cage and keep thinking about the next bat.”

Rafael Devers received intense spring training. During the exhibition, Red Sox managers Alex Cora and Devers seem to be inconsistent with whether he will spend time on baseball diamonds covering third base.
Shortly after the opening day, Cora confirmed that Devers would handle the team’s designated batsman full-time. But when Boston’s leading first baseman Triston Casas was seriously injured, it prompted another proposal for Red Sox Brass.

The New York Post reported in May that former Red Sox pitcher and the franchise’s current chief baseball officer Craig Breslow proposed the idea of covering the first base in the future. However, three-time Major League Baseball All-Star rate reportedly shut down the idea.

In publicly refuting potential position changes, Devers listed previous Red Sox instructions that were related to him.
“I know I’m a player, but at the same time, they can’t expect me to play every position there,” the Boston Globe reported in May. “In spring training, they talked to me and basically told me to take out my gloves and I’m not going to play any other position except DH.”

Devers received two basic blows during their debut debut in San Francisco. The Giants eventually defeated the Braves 9-0 on Tuesday. The Giants also won Wednesday’s game against Atlanta, winning three series.
