Michelsen Tops Tien, will face Khachanov to compete in the Toronto semifinals – Tennis now

In a friendly fire conflict, Alex Michelsen Play clean first-team tennis to take over good friends Learner Teen down.

Michelsen broke Tien in his opening service match, both sets of shots 6-3, 6-3 in a talented Californian game in Toronto today.

The 20-year-old Michelsen, ranked 10th in the last round, advanced to his 15th professional quarterfinals and the No. 1 Masters quarterfinals.

For Michelsen, it was Mirnair’s moment, and he led the beginning to end. Michelsen is the youngest ATP Masters 1,000 quarterfinal in the U.S. since the last eight in Miami in 2021. He is the youngest man in the United States since a 20-year-old Andy Roddick won the championship 22 years ago, reaching the National Bank Open quarter-finals.

Michelsen’s aggressive baseline performance is combined with some of Tien’s atypical hasty shots. Michelsen won 80 minutes in the sixth quarterfinal of the 2025 season and converted 4 in 10 minutes.

No. 34 Michelson will face Karen Khachanov in the last four games.

Khachanov beat US Open finalist Casper Ruud 6-4, 7-5 to win 29 winners.

Khachanov, the 11th seed, broke three times in a 93-minute victory.

Khachanov beat Ruud for the first time in three matches and beat 11 games against the top 20 opponents. It was Khachanov’s first victory among the top 20 opponents since defeating Grigor Dimitrov in Paris last October.

The tough Khachanov lost only one set in three games.

Michelsen swept Khachanov 6-3, 7-6 (5) at the Australian Open last January with an impressive 6-3, 7-6 (5) 6-2.
