Microsoft is ready to give up high-stakes negotiations with Openai: ft
Story: Microsoft is ready to abandon high-stakes negotiations with Openai because of the future of its multi-billion dollar alliance.
This is according to the Financial Times (June 18).
It said the tech giant could pause negotiations if the two sides agreed on key issues, citing people familiar with the matter.
According to reports, the sticker points include the size of Microsoft’s future stake in ChatGpt Maker.
Microsoft plans to rely on its existing contracts to not access OpenAI’s technology until 2030, the report said.
The tech giant’s multi-billion dollar investment in OpenAI technology has been the key to positioning it as an AI leader.
As its main proponent, AI startups need Microsoft’s approval to convert it into a public service company.
Openai believes the move will make raising funds easier.
Earlier this week, the Wall Street Journal said executives at Sam Altman had considered accusing Microsoft of anti-competitive behavior in its partnership.
Microsoft and Openai did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment on the latest news.
