Missing surfers find stranded on remote island in Australia

A real-life situation in Australia happened in Australia on Wednesday, with teenage surfers missing at sea and stranding on an island eight miles from the coast.

Darcy Deefholts, 19, surfed on Wooli Beach, New South Wales on Wednesday afternoon. When night fell, his family began to sound an alarm. Darcy’s father wrote on Facebook during an urgent call for help: “Of course, we’re worried that the worst is… so far we’ve been overwhelmed by the community efforts of searching. There’s only one thing now-our beloved boys are found safe.”

Therefore, a multi-institutional search was followed. The father called it a miracle of “one in a million” – Darcy was discovered the next morning on the northern isolated island.

By counting the tides and winds, rescuers assumed that Darcy was swept to remote islands near the coast. Their calculations are correct. After spending the night on the island, Darcy was found around 9:00 am the next day.

“It’s a little surreal,” Darcy’s father Terry told ABC. “I thought of the absolute worst moment. I didn’t give up hope, but jeez I’m very close.”

Family member Melissa Smith guesses what happened, how Darcy gets to the sea and then gets stuck on an uninhabited island.

“He obviously went too far on the longboard to come back. He was a survivor, a strong boy, and he knew it was a safe place.”

Now, it is reported that Darcy is back with his family, is checked in at the hospital and is in good spirits. Please read the local logo for reporting good news:

“Darcy has found it! F Yes.”
