MLB News: Hall of Fame member Ryne Sandberg publishes latest news about cancer battle

Baseball Hall of Fame member Ryne Sandberg shared the latest news on his battle with prostate cancer on Wednesday.

Sandberg, 65, was initially diagnosed in January 2024. He announced a few months later that he had no cancer.

However, the Chicago Bear legend announced in December that the cancer has not only recovered, but has spread to other organs.

“I want to share the latest news about my health. It’s been a challenging few months as I get treatment regularly,” Sandberg wrote in his recent post. “As I continue to fight, I look forward to making the most of my loving family and friends every day.”

When the cancer recovered in December, Sandberg said he was “back to deeper treatment”.

Sandberg threw his first court in April in the Cubs’ home opener. The 1984 NL MVP said he was “excited” in the second half of the season.

“I haven’t been to Wrigley Stadium like in the first half, but I’m watching every game, excited about the second half, and seeing Wrigley sway like in 1984!” Sandberg wrote at the time. “Thank you for your support information. Go to the cub!”

The Cubs offered a lot of cheers for Sandberg as they were 57-39 and led 1.0 games at the Milwaukee Brewers. Sandberg has played 13 games in his 16-year career with the Cubs.

Sandberg has been in his tenth consecutive term during his outstanding Bear service for ten consecutive years. He is the nine-time Gold Gloves title and seven-time Silver.
