The curtains will be closed for one of the longest performers in tennis history next year. Gael Monfils announced that he will retire from professional tennis at the end of the 2026 season.
The 39-year-old Frenchman, one of the most popular and exciting stars of the ATP Tour ever made, made the announcement on Wednesday.
The tour’s competition has been a tour favorite since the tour in 2004, with the former World No. 6 winning 13 ATP titles, but more importantly: countless must-see moments that showcase his extraordinary athleticism, sportsmanship, humor and grace.
He broke the news on social media on Wednesday morning, October 1, saying:
“The exciting new generation of players is already here and I hope they can enjoy their time in court as they have been in the past two decades.”
In fact, it’s hard to imagine anyone who likes Monfils.
His passion, talent for drama, his creativity and imagination always fully demonstrates the way he brings joy to the tennis world, something very few players have done before.
A Monfils acrobatic performer who may drop his chin with extraordinary regularity, plans to play a full season next year and retire at the end, meaning he will likely quit in his hometown of the Paris Masters.
Along the way, every tour he does will surely be filled with tears of joy. In the world, Monfils is still ranked 53 in the world.

The Parisian Wizard will turn 40 on September 1 next year.
“When you really like something, it never feels like a good time,” Monphelis wrote on social media. “But 40 is the right time for me. Of course, it’s incredible to win another title before I finish it.”
“But my only real goal for the next year is simple: enjoy every minute and play every game like my last game.”
