No more passwords? Facebook logs Passkey to iOS and Android; what is this? How to set it up?

Meta introduces Passkey for mobile devices on Facebook, providing another tool to protect user privacy and security. This is a new way to authenticate your identity and log in to an easier and safer account than a traditional password. Facebook said in its blog post that it will soon be used on Facebook on iOS and Android mobile devices, and they will start rolling out Passkeys for Messenger in the coming months. It also says that once this feature is activated, the Passkey you set up for Facebook will also be used on Messenger.

What is Passkey?

Passkey is a secure digital credential that serves as a replacement for passwords. They allow users to unlock devices using fingerprints, faces, or PINs, to verify their identity by using fingerprints, faces, or PINs, and to log in to websites and applications.

“Once created, they can be faster and easier than ever before, without remembering your password. All you need is a compatible mobile device and Facebook account.”

Another benefit of Passkey

According to Meta, Passkeys are not limited to logging into Facebook accounts—when making purchases via Meta Pay, they can also be used to securely use auto-filled payment information and eventually log in to Messenger and secure encrypted message backups.

How to set up a Facebook login on a mobile device?

– You can set up and manage your Passkey in the Settings menu on Facebook.
– You may also be prompted to set Passkey when you log in to Facebook.

Once set up, users will be able to use their Passkey to log in to Facebook on their mobile devices.

It should be noted that they are still able to access their accounts using other authentication methods such as passwords. This way, when they use devices that do not support Passkey, they can access their Facebook accounts.
