Now Runway sees it in the video game industry with its new generation AI platform

The AI startup runway, which recently partnered with AMC Networks, is now trying to break into the gaming industry. The company plans to launch its latest platform next week, called Game Worlds, edge. The new tool allows runway users to create something similar to a text-based game that generates text and images from AI.

While the gaming world can only produce basic designs for the moment, the company’s CEO Cristóbal Valenzuela hopes that this will be the first step towards more AI use in the gaming industry. Valenzuela told edge “The generated video games will start later this year,” adding that the runway is seeking to work with video game companies, which will be able to use the company’s AI tools while it can access video game datasets to train its AI. However, the use of AI in video games has attracted a lot of criticism from industry professionals, and even led to Sag-Aftra Union using its members’ similarity and sound to train AI’s video game companies.

Despite violating the terms of the video platform, Runway reportedly encountered its own controversy in training its AI in YouTube videos and pirated movies. Still, the runway is seeking to replicate similar successes from major TV and film studios. In the AMC deal, AI companies will help create promotional materials and help “accelerate pre-watching during development.” Prior to AMC, Runway formed a partnership with Lionsgate to provide AI for the studio’s “pre-production and post-production process.” As for the gaming world, Runway is not the first to introduce AI, as the industry has seen other examples, such as Ubisoft using a tool called Chostwriter to create video game conversations.
