Andre Agassi and Patrick Rafter often compete in some of the biggest games in the sport. Now, they will stand side by side as they guide the team world in the Laver Cup.
Two of the 29 members of ATP No. 1 Club Agassi Captain Agassi and Vice Captain Rafter took over the new era led by Laver Cup. Agassi replaced John McEnroe as global captain, while Yannick Noah Spearheads Team Europe was led by Bjorn Borg.
“To be honest, if Pat didn’t say he would join me, I don’t think I would do that,” Agassi told Atptour.com. “I literally say, ‘You’re the person I want’. He’s one of the great players, one of the great athletes, one of the great competitors.”
Agassi and Rafter met 15 times in the 1993-2001 Lexus ATP Head2head competition, accounting for the 1993-2001 matches, with the United States winning 10 games. Now, for twenty years after the last meeting, the mutual respect and friendship between Agassi and Rafter will be on display in San Francisco.
“He’s one of those guys I lost to him and I can actually comfort myself, ‘Well, at least Pat won, I’m happy for him’,” Agassi reflected. “He just always wins the respect of the players on and off the court, and now sharing the same side of the network with him is my victory.”
Rafter responded to the same view and said to the rally media: “Andre asked me, “Do you want to participate?” “It’s great with Andre and I keep in touch with him every year. [I’m] It’s bad, I love it. ”
After a narrow loss of 13-11 last year, Team World will target its third Laver Cup Triumph (2022, 2023) and on the sidelines with a new sound.
