Observer's Top Five Must-View Artworks in Frieze, New York

Frieze's most resonant works are intoxicated by their ambiguity. Casey Kelbaugh/CKA

Every year, New Yorkers are eager to see new features in the city’s version of Frieze Treek to the Shed the Hudson Yards, a building for the art fair, a silly drama about Robert Moses, presumably for other purposes. I stood in the VIP lounge on the top floor, staring at Thomas Heatherwick Blood vesselreopened with suicide network and wondered loudly whether my colleagues said the Nets would save lives, rather than encouragement slogans from Lady Gaga. You know, art can be very powerful.

I should clarify that none of us are willing to commit suicide. As for dealers, it is always difficult to get reliable information from it. (“Frieze New York brings high risk to the American art market,” read the front page of the art newspaper version released at the fair.) I really hope they all succeeded—their material is good, but these are five of my favorite works at the fair.

Jeff Koons Hulk (Tubas) (2004-18) in Gagosian

It feels like we haven't seen these Hulks in a while, maybe because of the way miracle kidnapped and murdered the film industry – the Bard Association. But these are the main works of artists, and the association is part of the reason. Although it looks like an explosion doll, it is actually made of multi-colored bronze and brass, the same object as the instrument that creates the neck to decorate. Koons have been consistent with the symbolism of airflow since his early vacuum cleaners. Bruce Banner's dual nature cites this falsely expanded nature better than the artist's balloon dog. The faces of this work have a drawing-only feature, which is great. Even if the millions of dollars price list price could be millions, someone snapped up the job right away.

This intimate moment will resonate with anyone who has to care for a sick loved one or clone. Although the layout of Tableau is cinematic, it is full of light and we feel like we are not watching the movie, but shooting the scene. If there aren't too many other hooks that can take you into this job, white is dominant. The theme feels classical, even though the coffee cup and MacBook are so modern that we are forced to confront the fact that the real world has actually become so dramatic.

P. Staff Works on My Dead Bed/Love/Venus (Phone) (2025) in Sultanna

If you listed the phone number here, “My Dim Sorrow at the End of Death” is the first poem in this trilogy. I wonder what that cute orange material is, but it's not on the label, so it probably doesn't matter. In the spirit of John Giorno, poetry and phone numbers are work, and the performances are very powerful. “I want to experience what you like/I want to eat your hands,” the artist gasped. These three poems are all related. He promised to live on Venus. Works of love Sometimes it gets very excited. “I can't replace you, Creme de la Creme. “Maybe this really doesn't matter, but I also said I like using Sharpie.

Buyers of this job received a complete set of these stickers to reproduce this effect on their door of choice. Of course, this is similar to a door in a college dorm, but it also reminds you why it is usually a good idea to clean up these stickers, as the political views expressed here are interesting. Pray for the fictionalists who slapped “Fuck You 2016” and “Fuck Brexit” here because they have only had more difficult times since then. Another wonderful aspect of these stickers is their yang ot. “Come on the friendly bomb, land on Eaton,” a poem by John Betjeman, which makes it a subtle dig for the upper class now. Yes, that will definitely start the revolution.

I've been following Barrington since inviting him to bring the studio to the 2017 MoMA PS1. Venezuelan artists manage to summon excellent images with geometric shapes, bright colors and simple materials, in this case acrylic and glitter. Now based in London, he was commissioned to work for the carnival car there, which illustrates the optimism and universal quality of his work. In this case, they tend to feel three-dimensional because he lets most of the burlap pass through. The work was enjoyable. You looked at the chunky blue way there, feeling like you were preparing for the party. Even if you don't know it's an event, its temporality is obvious.

You should definitely make time in Frieze, New York
