Old footage of Indonesian fire mistakenly shared Barcelona mosque fire
On July 12, an old video was shared in a social media post that had been mistakenly linked to a fire in a Spanish mosque, which local police said appeared to have been set on purpose. In fact, the dome of the Jakarta mosque caught fire during renovation work in October 2022.
“The Spanish public caught fire at Spain’s largest mosque after being frustrated by the horror of Islamic infiltration. Has people done the right thing?” Read the Hindi Facebook post on July 15.
The shared footage shows a dome roof with an Islamic star and a lunar dressed in flames with stickers that read: “The Spaniards have burned the Islamic Islamic Pila Mosque in Barcelona and are now under investigation by the police.”
A photo of a room with a blue floor and another similar to a burned room was covered in the clip.

Local residents protested after the fire, some of whom called the incident a “hate crime” (archive link).
However, the looping lens comes from Indonesia, not Spain.
A reverse image search was performed on Google using the keyframe in the clip and it was found that it was posted on Tiktok on October 19, 2022 (a link to archive).
The video is titled: “The dome of the Grand Mosque in the Islamic Center of Jakarta is engulfed by flames.”
