A series of injuries derailed Jabeur and consumed the pleasure of playing from her.

Last month, Jabeur played through qualifying and defeated 2024 Wimbledon finalist Jasmine Paolini to the Berlin quarterfinals. Jabeur lost to 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in the quarterfinals before falling into the back-to-back first round, in the Maya in Eastbourne and the 111 Viktoriya Tomova in the world of Wimbledon. Jabeur trailed her Wimbledon opening game 6-7, 0-2.

“I’ve been pushing myself hard for the past two years, getting hurt and facing many other challenges,” Jabir said on Twitter. “But deep down, I haven’t really been happy on the court for a while.

“Tennis is such a beautiful sport. But now, I feel it’s time to take a step back and finally put myself first: breathe, heal and rediscover the joy of simple life.”

Former world second-ranked and two-time Wimbledon finalist Jabeur left wrist surgery earlier in his career and has been injured in recent years. Jabeur closed her 2024 season last August after a shoulder injury.

Jabeur, nicknamed “Minister of Happiness” for his joyfulness in court, admitted that she worked hard to play tennis this season.

The 30-year-old Tunisian started the 2025 season, reaching the quarterfinals of Brisbane, succumbing to Mirra Andreeva 6-4, 7-6. Jabeur continued to reach the quarterfinals in Abu Dhabi and Doha. She has been working hard to publish 3-9 records in the tournament since.

Jabeur is a highly skilled shooter maker and one of the most popular players on the tour, and her unique style and fan-friendly personality will be missed.
