Openai is deleting Google’s chat conversations

OpenAI removed a feature that showed a shared chatgpt conversation in search results. “Short-term Experiment” is based on the link creation option of the chatbot. After the complaint, OpenAI chief information security officer Dane Stuckey said the company is working to remove search engine chats.

Public anger stems from Fast Company Articles earlier this week (by ARS Technica). Fast Company Say it found thousands of Chatgpt conversations in Google search results. The index chat does not explicitly include identification information. But in some cases, their contents have been reported to contain specific details that may point to the source.

To be clear, this is not a hacker or a leak. When creating a shareable URL pointing to a chat, it may tick with the box user. In the pop-up window for creating a public link, the option “Make this chat discoverable” appears. A more straightforward explanation (“Allow to display in web search”) appears in the smaller gray font below. Users must check this box to index chat.

You might wonder why people have questions about building public links with public links for chats because its content is public. but Fast Company It was pointed out that people could have shared URLs in messaging applications, or as an easy way to revisit chat later. Regardless, the public discoverability option is now gone.

exist Fast CompanyThe report, Stuckey defended the feature’s label as “clear enough”. However, after a strong protest, Openai surrendered. “Ultimately, we think this feature gives people too many opportunities to accidentally share what they are not planning on, so we are removing that option,” Stuckey announced on Thursday.
