Naomi Osaka was forced to withdraw from the quarter-finals and Jacqueline Christian advanced to the semi-finals after injuring her left leg during Osaka’s second-round win over Susan Ramens.
It’s a heavy blow for the four-time Grand Slam champion, who turned 28 yesterday.
Osaka has yet to make an official statement on the severity of the injury. She is 30-15 on the season and recently reached the semifinals of the U.S. Open, her best performance at a major since 2021.
These 45 games are her most appearances in a single calendar year since 2019.
