Carlos Alcaraz drowned out the cheers of Partizan fans in Turin on Thursday at the Nitto ATP Finals, where he reclaimed one of tennis’s most prestigious honors.
The 22-year-old Spaniard defeated debutant Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 6-1 at the thrilling Inalpi Arena to claim the ATP year-end No. 1 ranking from the PIF for the first time since 2022. The win capped a perfect 3-0 record for the Jimmy Connors Group and moved Alex de Minaur, who defeated Taylor Fritz earlier Thursday, into the semifinals in second place.

Alcaraz absorbed the full force of home support early on and remained committed to the high-risk, high-reward tactics that defined his campaign in the Nitto ATP Finals. Despite making 21 unforced errors, he scored 26 winners to Musetti’s eight, unsettling the Italian and sealing his 83-minute win with trademark flair.
Musetti, who needed a win to join Alcaraz in the semi-finals, lit up the crowd with a dazzling display in the first set, including a series of crisp net moves. However, the Italian struggled to maintain that level in the extended match and was unable to convert either of his two break points, according to Infosys ATP Statistics.
Musetti’s thrilling win over De Minaur on Tuesday – a win in his last four matches – kept his semi-final hopes alive and left the Australian’s fate uncertain. Two days later, De Minaur secured a decisive victory over Fritz and now advanced to the semi-finals to face the winner of Bjorn Borg’s group.
