PAALAM Headlines World Championship

Olympic silver medalist Carlo Paalam will lead a thin but seven-man Filipino team to the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, England from September 4 to 14.
Mr. Paalam won the silver medal in Tokyo four years ago, but did not win the medal in Paris last year.
Accompanying Mr Paalam are Southeast Asian Games winner Riza Pasuit, Australian consultant Don Abnett and national team coach Reynaldo Galido.
Mr Paalam will see action in the men’s 55kg class action, while Ms Pasuit competes in the women’s 60kg class.
Ronald Chavez Jr. plans to see action in the men’s 70kg category and should join the team immediately once a visa is obtained.
Jay Bryan Baricuatro (50kg for men), Junmilardo Ogayre (60kg for men), Mark Ashley Fajardo (65kg for men) and Ofelia Magno (48kg for women).
Mr. Baricuatro and Mr. Ogayre will be from a training camp in Xinjiang, China, while Mr. Fajardo and Ms. Magno join Bangkok.
Paris bronze winner Aira Villegas was supposed to join the team but stayed behind due to a shoulder injury.
The Boxing League Association of Philippine Secretary General Marcus Manalo highlights the importance of the world.
“It’s the World Championship, the highest level of competition outside the Olympics, so you want to do a good job here,” Mr Manalo told Manalo on Tuesday.
