Pahalgam terrorist attack: Air India, Indigo will operate additional flights from Srinagar to evacuate stranded tourists

After terrorist attacks in Pahalgam in Kashmir, Air India and Indigo have announced additional flights from Srinagar to assist stranded travelers who wish to return home.

The attack took place Tuesday afternoon near the popular grasslands in Pahalgam, marking the deadliest terror in Jamu and Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama incident. The PTI reported that armed terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists, leaving more than twenty dead vehicles behind and sparked widespread appeals for immediate evacuation of tourists from the area.

Intensified the crisis, with recent mountain flooding and landslides in the Ramban district forcing the Jamu-Srinagar National Highway to close, stranding thousands of tourists in the valley for more than three days.

Indigo will run two additional flights

In response, Tata Group-owned Air India will have two other flights from Srinagar to Delhi and Mumbai on Wednesday, April 23. These flights are scheduled to leave Srinagar at 11:30 am (December) and 12:00 pm.

Air India currently flies five daily from Delhi and Mumbai to Srinagar, while Indigo has about 20 daily flights. India Express connects Srinagar to five major cities – Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chamu and Kolkata, with about 80 flights per week, and also introduces flexible travel options.

“Given the prevalence, guests traveling to and from Srinagar to and from until April 30, 2025, can be rescheduled without paying date change fees or fare differences,” the airline said.

Indigo will also have two additional flights to the same destination on Wednesday. Both airlines have announced flexible travel policies, including full refunds and rescheduling, at no additional charge, until April 30, passengers travelling to and from Srinagar.

Air India said on X (formerly Twitter): “We offer passengers free rescheduling and full refunds until April 30.”
