Leo Borg joined his father, ATP No. 1 club member Bjorn Borg, in a match-winning performance at the BNP Paribas Nordic Open in Stockholm on Monday night.
The 22-year-old Borg, who entered the ATP 250 as a wild card, easily defeated Sebastian Ofner 6-3, 6-4 for his second ATP Tour victory (his other was at Bastad in 2023). The 633rd-ranked player in the PIF ATP rankings converted two of the three break points he won to seal a second-round spot in his father’s 1980 title win over archrival John McEnroe, according to Infosys ATP Statistics.
“It’s really special. My first win in Stockholm is really special,” said Borg, who will face third seed and 2019 champion Denis Shapovalov in the second round. “I’ve really stepped up my game so I’m really happy with my performance. I have the level but the consistency is not my best side. I worked really hard and I really improved today and showed myself and the people in the tennis world that I really belong here.
“I’ve been injured for a while and today I managed to come back and prove to myself that I really belong here. It’s a good, positive thing. I just have to keep doing my thing.”
Borg’s victory in 76 minutes was his first in nine attempts against a top-150 opponent. The Swede, who mainly competes on the ITF World Tennis Tour this year, hopes to rebuild his career-high ranking, reaching world No. 334 or higher.
“I played really well today and it helped the crowd, which was great,” Borg said in an on-court interview. “I knew he had a big game, so I really had to play better. But I really improved today and was really happy with my performance. Yeah, really good.”
Jacob Fearnley’s first test at the BNP Paribas Nordic Open will be trying to complete his Stockholm revenge against Talon Grikspur. The Englishman succeeded in his mission on Monday, despite some decisive tie-break drama before then.
Fearnley, ranked 79th in the PIF ATP Rankings, avenged a second-round loss to the Dutchman a year ago by defeating fifth seed Grikspoor 6-3, 6-7(6), 7-6(5) on the first day of the indoor ATP 250 event. Fearnley led 6/2 in the third set tie-break, but dropped four consecutive points, including two on his own serve, to win the match which lasted 2 hours and 44 minutes.
“It was very tough. I thought things were going pretty well until 5/3 when I served and I was a little nervous,” Fearnley said in an on-court interview. “To be fair, Talon worked hard on his game and raised his level when needed. It was just a war until the end. Huge respect to Talon, but happy to get through it.”

The win came despite Fearnley being beaten 32-34 by Grikspur. According to Infosys ATP statistics, the 24-year-old British player’s serve was the basis of his victory, winning 78% (45/58) of his points after his first serve to end the match.
After drawing 1-1 with Grikspur in the Lexus ATP head-to-head series, Fearnley will next prepare for a second-round match against one of the two brothers: home wildcards Mikael Immel and Elias Immel will meet in the first round on Tuesday for the right to play the Scot.
Miomir Kekmanovic ended a four-match losing streak on the ATP Tour by overtaking sixth seed Alexander Muller in the first match of the day in Stockholm. The Serb, ranked 49th in the world, will next face either Tomas Martin Etcheverry or qualifier Mark Lajal. Meanwhile, Sebastian Korda defeated seventh seed Alexei Popyrin 6-7(4), 6-1, 6-3 on day one in the Swedish capital, ensuring all three seeds lost.
