PM Modi, Putin travels in the same car after SCO Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin went to the same car on Monday to the venue of their bilateral meeting in Tianjin, China.

“After the proceedings at the SCO summit venue, President Putin and I went to the venue of our bilateral meeting. The dialogue with him was always insightful,” Prime Minister Modi said in an article on X.

India and Russia want to strengthen bilateral relations amid tariffs by U.S. President Donald Trump, a development that is due to this. The U.S. imposes a 50% tariff on Indian goods, including a 25% fine for purchasing discounted crude oil from Moscow.

White House trade adviser expressed frustration with India, calming his ties with Russia and China, as PM Modi is currently attending the SCO summit in Tianjin.

PM Modi stressed in his speech at SCO that it is necessary to improve connectivity among members to promote trade.

“India has always believed that strong connectivity not only improves trade but also opens the door to growth and trust. With this in mind, we are developing plans such as the Chabahar port and the International North-South Transport Corridor. This will help us improve connectivity with Afghanistan and Central Asia.”

Describing the third pillar, Prime Minister Modi said that during India’s presidency, cooperation and reform opportunities in 2023 brought new energy ideas.

PM Modi said: “Start-ups, innovation, empowering youth, digital inclusion and sharing of Buddhist heritage are new areas in which India was founded. Our efforts are to expand the scope of SCO outside of government.”

Russian President Putin said dialogue within the SCO helped lay the foundation for the new Eurasian security system to replace the outdated European and European Atlantic models.

“The SCO is steadily increasing its impact on solving international issues. National currencies are being used more widely in trade between SCO countries. The pace of development of cooperation within the SCO is impressive,” Putin said.

In addition, Chinese President Xi Jinping called on the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to safeguard fairness and justice, while at the 25th session of the SCO Governors Committee.

“We must promote the correct historical viewpoints in World War II and oppose the Cold War mentality, which hinders confrontation and bullying,” Xi Jinping said.

The SCO Summit 2025 reflects the importance of multipolarity in global governance, as U.S. President Donald Trump’s deal-bullying behavior alienates most of his allies.
