Police say

Two children in Garden Grove, who were in Stockton, who were killed by his father and then drove hundreds of miles north, fired at an orphanage, and then switched the gun to himself, according to police.

According to department social media posts, Garden Grove Police Department officials responded to a Morgan Lane home around 8:05 a.m. Thursday for welfare calls. Authorities said a person called police and said family members needed an officer and ambulance.

Police said once officers arrived at the scene, one of their girls at home received another call saying her mom needed help. The officer found the body of 37-year-old Crystal Gonzalez inside. The police said that the second child, the girl’s siblings, was also inside, and was not hurt, and they did not know what happened to the mother.

It is not clear how or when Gonzalez was killed.

As the investigation progresses, police say family members report a car of Gonazarez’s husband, 35, was found in Stockton, 300 miles north of San Joaquin County.

Police learned from Stockton Police Department that Lopez was about the time they were called to check on their city shooting at the Garden Grove home.

The Stockton Police Department officer responded to a report of a shooting at 8 miles west around 8 a.m. Thursday, and found two men shot dead.

Police said Lopez appeared to have shot a 54-year-old man, seriously injured him, and then shot himself. Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives are still investigating and are asking anyone with more information to contact Garden Grove Police at (714) 741-5413. Officials are also working to reunite the children with their families.
