“Prepare to set out, just say when”: Trump urges NATO to impose severe sanctions on Russia to strike China with 50-100% tariffs
In a letter to NATO countries, U.S. President Donald Trump urged allies to impose comprehensive sanctions on Russia and to stop buying Russian oil in a letter, warning that continuing imports undermines Western negotiating power over Moscow.
“I am ready to impose significant sanctions on Russia when all NATO countries agree, and when all NATO countries stop buying oil from Russia,” Trump wrote. “Some people buying Russian oil has been shocking! It greatly weakens your negotiating position and bargaining power in Russia.”
Call for steep tariffs in China
Trump also proposed huge tariffs on China to oppress Beijing to curb support for Moscow. “I believe … 50% to 100% tariffs are imposed in China after the war with Russia and Ukraine will also be of great help in ending this deadly but ridiculous war,” he said in a post on Truth Social.

NATO oil buyers in the spotlight
According to the Center for Energy and Clean Air Research, NATO member Türkiye has been the third largest buyer of Russian oil. Other members of the 32-country alliance involved in the purchase of Russian oil include Hungary and Slovakia.
