The company, Public Broadcasting Corporation (CBP), announced that it would close operations after Congress’s instructions to President Donald Trump.

In a press release Friday, CPB said it would start “orderly reduction in its operations” after passing the federal revocation plan last month.

“For nearly 60 years, the CPB has been performing a congressional mission to establish and maintain a trusted public media system that provides information to communities across the country, providing information to communities,” the CPB said in a statement. “Through partnerships with local radio stations and producers, the CPB supports educational content for Americans in every community, locally relevant journalism, emergency communication, cultural programming and essential services.

CPB President and CEO Patricia Harrison said despite efforts to raise funds for public media, “we are now facing the difficult reality of closing operations.”

CPB employees were told that most of their positions would end at the end of the fiscal year at the end of September.
