Rapidrop gets millions of pounds from BGF to fire international expansion

British fire safety maker Rapidrop Global Ltd has received millions of pounds from BGF as it prepares for the next phase of global growth.
Located in Cambridgeshire, Rapidrop is a leading designer and manufacturer of fire sprinklers and fire suppression system components used in commercial, residential and infrastructure projects. The company operates in more than 80 countries and is one of only five manufacturers worldwide and one of the only independent UK providers, with a significant global certification from internationally recognized fire safety authorities.
BGF investments are underway during a critical period in the fire suppression industry, which is experiencing rapid growth due to intensified regulations, increased construction activity and growth in global urbanization. The sprinkler system market is expected to grow by more than 8% per year by 2030, the basis for growing demand for risk reduction and building safety solutions.
Rapidrop has doubled its size since 2017 and continues to expand its coverage, reputation and product range. With the support of BGF, the company plans to accelerate its international expansion, deepen its product development and strengthen its operating footprint. BGF will also provide strategic advice through its investment network and industry expertise to support Rapidrop’s scale ambitions.
The business was originally founded by Daniel Gill, who transformed it from the roots of Kestrel fasteners in the 1980s to a recognized global player. Since its death in 2017, the Jill family has been overseeing Rapidrop’s growth journey. As part of the deal, family members Dan Gill and Rebecca Park will retain a majority stake in the business and remain active in the business.
To support the next phase, Rapidrop appointed Chris Shelley as CEO, strengthening its leadership team. Shelley gained extensive experience in her former role as chief business officer at the Envea Group, an environmental instrumentation company. Richard Whiting also joined the chairman, providing strategic oversight with the scale of the company.
“Rapidrop has built a fantastic reputation and a solid growth platform with a talented team and strong fundamentals. With the investment and strategic support of BGF, it’s easy for us to expand our product innovation and expand our international reach. I look forward to leading the team to this exciting next chapter.”
The deal was led by Mark Nunny and Elena Kovalikhina of BGF Central and Oriental Investments team, which now completes three deals in the past 12 months, including Simpy Research and Miracle Design & Play.
Nunny added: “Rapidrop is an outstanding UK manufacturing business with a strong brand in the fast-growing regulatory leadership market. Its international recognition, proprietary products and a diverse customer base provide a strong foundation for long-term growth. We are excited to support Chris and the team based on the company’s impressive momentum.”
With global focus on fire safety and compliance, BGF’s investment puts Rapidrop in a strong position to lead the suppression of innovation and growth in the sector.
