Reassessment of arms supply to Israel
Foreign Secretary Johann Wadephul said in a comment in the Seitung Daily published on Friday that it would be assessed in Israeli operations in the Gaza Strip and could be subject to restrictions.
Wadpo said Israel must be able to defend against attacks such as Husseus, Hezbollah or Iran through the German weapon system.
“The other question is whether what is happening in the Gaza Strip is consonant with humanitarian international law,” he told the National Daily.
“We are checking this and based on this assessment, we will approve further weapons delivery if necessary,” Wadephul said, noting that this could lead to partial cessation of delivery.
Speaking with ABC Fox News on Wednesday, Wadephul said Germany stood with Israel and was responsible for Israel’s security and existence based on German history.
He added: “We have provided weapons and will do so in the future.”
He said on Süddeutsche Zeitung, he said that the current aid to Gaza is a drop in the ocean. “It’s about ensuring basic human rights. The sick and the weak, the children die first,” Vaddur said.
“So we change the language and may also change our political actions in the next step,” he added.
Wadephul and Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s relationship with Israel has changed recently. They believe that Israel has not met its commitment to the Palestinian population through the new Israeli US distribution program.
