Svetolina said she said she won’t play again this season.
“I haven’t felt myself lately. I’m not in the right emotional space and I’m not ready to play, so I’m ending the season here,” Svitolina said on Instagram.
“Over the years, I learned that the sport has nothing to do with money, fame or ranking, but to prepare for battle and go all out.
“Not every day has to be productive, powerful or energetic. Some days are heavy and that doesn’t make me weak. It means I’m human and need time to rest, feel, breathe and be.”
The 31-year-old Svitolina bowed in Cincinnati to head for the first round of the U.S. Open, Anna Bondar, who suffered from the heartbreak of Jasmine Paolini in the semifinals of the Billie Jean King Cup last weekend. Svitolina sent Ukraine to the finals within two matches before falling into Paolini.
Svitolina No. 13 has a record of 35-14 in 2025, including winning the Rouen title on Red Clay last April.
