If you choose a robot vacuum with mapping capabilities, you can usually choose to quickly map the run without cleaning. This seems like a waste, but it does save time in the long run. Use the map run to stroll around your house quickly, looking for hanging shoelaces, wired headphones, or any long strings or stripes that will fall on the smartest robot vacuum cleaner.
And turn on the lights. Your robot may have a light sensor that requires ambient light to operate. If you find your vacuum cleaner in a lot, don’t schedule a cleaning at night. (Try 9am, which is the usual scheduled time for my vacuum.) If you have a dog, clean it immediately after leaving and will also give your puppy less time to have an accident on the floor.
Today, if your robot vacuum has navigation problems, it will also be available in you. In my house, dust is often placed on top of the optical sensor and can be wiped off with a soft cloth.
Empty the trash bin
Yes, unfortunately, robots that often dig out the worst corners of a house require some routine maintenance. More than a few people complained to me about their robot vacuum not working properly, just dragging dust. If you are doing this, the bin may be full. The robot vacuum bin is very small. Most robot vacuum cleaners have a trash bin size of about 0.6 liters. The dust bin on my Dyson Ball vacuum is twice as bad as I still need to clear from room to room.
Handle clogs and clots
Many robot vacuum cleaners now come with tiny tools embedded in the vacuum body, making routine maintenance slightly easier. I also put scissors and er poke tools (chopsticks) on my hands to cut my hair or yarn that pierce the roller brush or push the stubborn Lego with the stubborn Lego onto the self-empty trash bin.
I do have to say here that robot vacuum is not unique in this regard. These are all my handheld push vacuum problems. I haven’t encountered a robot vacuum problem that cannot be solved with a few minutes of regular maintenance (well, occasional factory reset).

Ideally, you would automate the cleaning cycle of the robot vacuum instead of thinking about it again and then go back to a clean house every day. But, like robot vacuums, they can’t pick up your kid’s 1,000-piece puzzle set for you, nor can they leave you in the pile of dirty laundry on the floor.
