Irish golfers admit that Rory McIlroy enjoyed a “very ordinary” U.S. Open.
McIlroy said his 10-of-10 score in Oakmont wasn’t particularly noteworthy.
However, the star golfer even made public comments because it broke his recent silence trend.
McIlroy won the U.S. Open in 2011 and held his first post-match media conference after shooting 44 of 74 in the third round Saturday.

He skipped talking to reporters after the match Thursday and Friday. McIlroy was asked Saturday if it was because of his frustration with the course.
“Not really,” said the defending master champion. “It’s even more frustrating.”
When asked to elaborate, he said, “Maybe it’s not you, but more – just the whole thing.”

But it will be difficult afterwards. McIlroy talks openly about the need to find motivation.
McIlroy’s driver was determined to fail before the PGA championship. He was angry because the news leaked and he didn’t talk to the media in any of the four rounds of Quail Hollow’s game. He spoke this week before the start of the U.S. Open, but spoke after 72 first rounds of his 74th or second round.
Sometimes, he doesn’t need words to share his thoughts, such as when he threw the club at No. 12 on Friday and smashed a Tee Marker in a few holes. Both bursts appeared in his last 10 holes in the second round to make layoffs.
“It’s fun. It’s much easier to be on the cut line when you don’t care if the weekend is here,” McIlroy said. “I was thinking, ‘Do I really want to have two more days here?'”

He also put forward the notion that avoiding the media is new to him.
“I skipped you guys on Thursday,” McIlroy said. “I’ve done it before. I just do it often.”

There are many possibilities for McIlroy’s diet. His performance, the driver flap, or maybe he was just tired of the expectations that came with being one of the top ambassadors of the game. He has long been known for accessibility, and when Liv Golf launched, he stood firmly with the PGA Tour.
