Rs 180 billion BEML railway coaching unit in Raisen of Rajnath Singh Lays Foundation Stone of MP

On a milestone in improving the infrastructure and manufacturing of indigenous railways, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh laid the cornerstone of the “Bramha” Beml Rail Hub’s “Bramha” Beml Rail Hub’s “Bramha” Beml Rail Hub on Sunday. The state-of-the-art facility developed by Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), with an investment of Rs 18 billion, is expected to be the cornerstone of India’s self-reliant railway production ecosystem.

The Defense Minister spoke at the ceremony, calling the initiative a symbol of India’s growing industrial strength and praised the emergence of Madhya Pradesh as a promising hub for the defence and infrastructure manufacturing.

“The state has political will, stable leadership and abundant resources. With 48,000 hectares dedicated to new investments, members of Congress are becoming a “modern country”.”

The new sector is named after Lord Brahmin, the creator of the known universe in Indian mythology – will be manufactured by coaches for Vande Bharat, Amrit Bharat, subway trains and future high-speed rail systems, including bullet trains.

It will also produce other rail components and have export-ready wide and standard instrumentation coaches.

The plant will initially produce 200 coaches a year, and over time, it can expand up to 1,100 vehicles.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also participated in the event, noting that Beml has delivered more than 2,100 subway coaches and is actively developing a prototype of a high-speed train in partnership with the Integral Coach Factory (ICF).

“The Umaria forces will generate at least 5,000 jobs and play a key role by unloading the jobs to MSMES to achieve the Indian Railways goal,” he said.

Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav described the project as a proud moment for the country and directly reflects Narendra Modi’s “Made in India” vision.

“For the first time Madhya Pradesh will produce and supply trains and metro coaches across the country and around the world,” he said.

Union Minister of Agriculture Shivraj Singh Chouhan talked about Sindoor Operation during this period.

The facility spans Goharganj Tehsil near Obedullaganj on 148 acres, and the facility will combine state-of-the-art technologies including robot welding, lean manufacturing and solar energy systems. It will require 2,000 MVA of electricity, which can be met by renewable energy.

BEML Chairman Shantanu Roy confirmed that the first coach is expected to be launched within 18 months. The strategic location of the plant is expected to catalyze regional development, while the auxiliary industries in the Raisen and Bhopal regions offer bogies, internal, air-conditioning systems and other components.

A dedicated railway coaching technical college is also considering supporting skills development and technical training.

Beml’s expansion to Raisen marks a strategic integration of defense-level engineering and civilian infrastructure needs.

The department will complement its existing hubs in Bangalore, Palakkad and Kolar Gold Fields and significantly enhance India’s railway export capacity.
