Russian missiles hit Ukrainian training sector, killing and injuring soldiers

Ukrainian armed forces have confirmed that Russian missile strikes attacked military training units, causing many casualties.

Ukrainian ground forces said late Tuesday that three service personnel were known to have been killed and 18 were injured.

The military did not say the location of the training ground, although a Ukrainian war journalist Andrei Taplienko said it was in the Chernishiv region north of Kiev, bordering Russia and Belarus.

The Russian Ministry of Defense released a video claiming to be striked by the Iskander ballistic missile in a wooded area, which involved more than 20 cluster explosions.

The video cannot be verified immediately, but the Russian Ministry of Defense claims that Ukraine’s casualties are much higher than what the Ukrainian military said. There has been no news from the military since late Tuesday.

“Despite security measures, unfortunately, it is impossible to completely avoid losses between personnel,” Ukrainian ground forces said in a statement on social media.

This is the third Russian attack on Ukrainian training sector, more than a few months.

An Iskander missile attack at a camp in the northern border area of Sumy killed six soldiers in May, another strike killed 12 people and injured another 60 people last month.

Particularly sensitive to the military’s protection of Ukrainian troops in exercises, it will investigate whether “action or inaction” during a missile strike Tuesday night resulted in death or injury.

The ground commander Mykhailo Drapatyi resigned after last month’s deadly attack, calling the victims “young people from the training camp” when most of them were in the shelter.
