S Jaishankar discusses borders, terrorism, regional issues with each other

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar held bilateral discussions with his Chinese rival Wang Yi during a two-day official visit ending Tuesday. Ajit Doval, a national security adviser who invited the Chinese Foreign Minister to visit, co-chaired the 24th round of dialogue on border issues between the Special Representative and YI.

Yi (Yi) is a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and the Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China. During his visit, he also called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In the dialogue between the Special Representatives held in the national capital, the discussion covered a range of issues, including downgrades, demarcation and boundary affairs.

The two foreign ministers also discussed issues of bilateral, regional and international interest.

India strongly raises the issue of terrorism in various forms and manifestations including cross-border terrorism, recalling that one of the original goals of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was to counter terrorism.

Ye agrees to deal with counter-terrorism at the top of the list.

The SCO summit is scheduled to be held in China later this month.

During the discussion, Jaishankar also highlighted India’s concerns about the construction of a giant dam downstream of the Yarlung Tsangpo (Brahmaputra River), which will have an impact on the Lower River country.

In this regard, he strongly stressed the need for maximum transparency.

The Chinese side raised the Taiwan issue, while the Indian side reiterated that its status had not changed.

It noted that, like the rest of the world, India maintains a focus relationship with Taiwan, focusing on economic, technological and cultural ties.

India also pointed out that China itself cooperates with Taiwan in these areas.
